THE GLOBAL SUMMER SYMPOSIUM IS NO LONGER PLANNED FOR OPERATION IN SUMMER 2021.

Join us for a two-week online program where you will explore the health and well being of youth and how it is inherently connected to the communities in which they live. Travel virtually to South Africa and India to learn how community development initiatives are being put in place to to work toward supportive solutions that improve the lives of youth. Embrace new systems and societal structures that support the well being of youth in two of the most populous regions of the world.

ON THIS VIRTUAL PROGRAM YOU WILL:

  • Travel “virtually” to South Africa and India where you will collaborate with community leaders
  • Learn how two communities are confronting critical issues around children’s rights on a local scale
  • Meet like-minded peers with a shared interest in supporting children and community development
  • Explore UN Sustainable Development Goal #1 — No Poverty
  • Dive into UN Sustainable Development Goal #2 — Zero Hunger
  • Earn a certificate of achievement at the end of your two-week experience

During this Global Summer Symposium on Community Development, you will explore children’s issues as they relate to the complex communities of which they are a part.

Access to safe housing and nutritious food should be a basic human right. Children are among the most vulnerable citizens around the world, and we need holistic solutions that support the well-being of our communities and our children.

Students on this program will travel “virtually” to South Africa and India as we make the case for building community development initiatives that support the youngest populations so that they may thrive! Connect deeper to each culture you encounter along the way.

Throughout this two-week online program, discover the many challenges of sustainable community development.

Use the Sustainable Development Goals as a foundation for your exploration of real-life case studies. Hear from expert speakers as they share how youth in their communities are gaining access to supportive systems, in order to ensure they are able to access the resources they need to thrive.

In South Africa, hear from the SAVE Foundation, a registered non-profit that works to enrich, educate and empower various township and settlement communities. Hear how they are working to end the vicious cycle of poverty that young people face in their community.

In India, hear from Rahul Gupta and his team at Aii Group to learn how they are working in collaboration with several organizations in their communities to promote sustainable and economic solutions for youth to gain access to education and basic needs.

During this program, students will explore United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #1 – No Poverty and United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #2- Zero Hunger.

Develop a project proposal to offer a solution to a community development issue we see today, and pitch your ideas to our guest leaders

Through deep learning and collaboration, share ideas and build toward a better and more equitable future

Earn a certificate of achievement and use this experience as a capstone for your college applications or future career resumes
